One Line Dovetail
Переглядів 4,7 тис.3 роки тому
What is the simplest and most efficient way of making a dovetail? The answer is with one layout line. I saw this method demonstrated by a Chinese woodworking master (@user-lk8ui4cs4q ) . I was flabbergasted by his amazing technique. So in this video I wanted to demonstrate his dovetail technique to you. It is the simplest, but it is the most technically challenging technique I've ever done. Ple...
Traditional Chinese Peasant's Stool 四腿八叉
Переглядів 17 тис.3 роки тому
I made 4 stools to furnish our kitchen. I decided to use the traditional Chinese peasant's stool as the model for my chairs. This style is called "4 leg 8 splay" (四腿八叉), it is always found among the poor; if you pay any attention to Chinese culture you'll notice this style of stool is not used by the aristocratic or the ruling class or the wealthy class. It is truly an utilitarian peasant's sto...
How to Make a Router Plane Made From a Block Plane
Переглядів 6 тис.3 роки тому
I wanted to make a smaller router plane to go with my Stanley #71 1/2. I wanted my smaller router plane to be made from metal. I had an old block plane that I bought for ~$5 when I first started to do woodworking. And I used this block plane as the starting of my new smaller metal router plane. I used a threaded rod connector to form the height adjuster knob of the router plane. I cut a rod con...

Thoroughly enjoyed this video. I like how you explain everything as you go and even include the tough stuff. Maybe one day I’ll give this a try. I just have always been fascinated by old watches and have a few that need some love lol.
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's always nice to know it was helpful or inspiring in some way.
Thank you Sir.🎉
That movement needed to be oiled because they don’t do that at the factory.
Whats name app?
Can you give links of parts
Exelente!!! Simple, práctica y muy portable. Le regaló un licke. Saludos
🎉 ingenious. 🎉
Always good stuff.😊
Well done
Very nice Video. I am about to try my hand at this. I just ordered a kit for DIY Watch Club. What is the name of the accuracy meter that you used at the end?
Watch accuracy meter
Thank you.
what would be the difference with a dive watch case in terms of fitting the stem?
All dives should have a screw down crown. So I think they are the same as this one. Just a bit at a time until the fit is right.
Nice job!
The marking gauge looks like a bunch of hex keys traumatised by mid life crisis. I'm gonna try making one ❤
Midlife or wild teenager? I think you're going to like it.
So helpful. Thank you so much
You're welcome.
Hey John, enjoyed the show. I just got one of these plane stops today and wasn’t looking forward to fitting it. Hopefully you have made it easier for me to avoid silly mistakes.
I hope it makes it easier for you as well. Good luck.
I appreciate this. That's actually exactly what a lot of micro brands are doing but at a much lower price
Thanks. I don't know of any micro-brands that doesn't charge a lot for a eta-2824 or any eta movement.
hay que cuidar mas la maquina
Nicely Explained. Thank you 👍👍👍
Very interesting to see how different cultures came to very similar solutions to the same problem, but with some very subtle differences
That was helpful to see all the steps and the tools. Seems like the putty is perhaps the most important thing next to the vise
Definitely.
Did you know that you can easily get rid of your Vitiligo? It can be treated with a combination of creams and tablets. I have it, too, but not as severe as yours. I hope posting it here was not a problem for you. 1 were is the rest of the video
Thank you for the comment, I am aware of the Jak1 inhibitor creams. I do not see my vitiligo as a thing to get rid of. I am not the one with the disease if someone judges me by it.
I just bought parts for my first build. I decided to go with the NH35. I read that its easier to work with as a beginner. I hope I bought the correct parts. The case has the crown at 3.8. I was told the NH35 will work just fine. I purchased a dial with date at 3 o’clock.
Good luck. Nh35 is a good beginner choice, reasonably priced.
Awesome
Thank you.
Great build mate! Just wondering how thick the watch is - before I make one myself.
Thank you. It is ~12 mm thick. It definitely sits well on the wrist.
Good project!
Thanks.
I have been a leather worker for over 50 years. Tooling, braiding rawhide and chrome and tanned leather. I found your video to be very informative. Thank you for taking the time to make and share this with us. Well done. Especially the safety parts. People just don’t get how important that is when working with chemicals. Well I bought it at the hardware store it should be safe. Some people ya just have to drum it into them. Or let em go. Again, thank you. Tom
I agree. I blame America's steady decline in cognitive capacity, for the dumb things we do.
Could you list the tools that would be needed, I know the parts but what tools are required?
any basic watch making tool kit is sufficient.
GOSTEI do ESTILO 👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 🇧🇷
Thanks.
What is that laser that you use on your drill press?
It came with the tool. I rarely use it.
HAYDEN SEI TUUUU?!!!
amazing stuff !!
Thank you.
Hi. I have softer leather now. I’m managing the wrap okay, but I keep getting gaps where I can see underneath? What would cause this? My cuts are the right width? Thanks, Brian.
you're likely pulling the leather or have uneven width, or your width is too small.
Hmm. I should have looked into this earlier. I used a hacksaw blade to cut the remains of a plastic fitting in a steel tank. I cut slots in it. and broke out the pieces, but ended up nicking the threads in the female tank threads. Fortunately, with silicone and pipe dope, it isn't leaking. I should have made a saw blade of brass, that would cut the plastic but not damage the steel.
I bought a used plane. I took it apart and put it together without losing any parts. Before and after I took it apart, the lever at the top of the blade just flops up and down. Is something missing or is something not put together right?
Awesome im currently planning out a standing tool box with a mini lathe buffer and grinder on top.
8 years later, and I'm making this now. Well done & thank you!
Hi. I’m trying to do a wrap around a handle. My leather is 2.5-3mm thick and I’m having trouble. Is the leather just too thick? What thickness is best? Thanks. Brian.
Try beveling/thinning the edges. It will make it lay better.
Thank you so much! I had a number of questions in my head and as the video played, you seem to answer them one after another. Also, that saw is gorgeous. Beautiful beautiful! What wood did you use? If you don’t mind me asking.
Yes. That's the way I planned it. It is walnut.
Really great video! Never would’ve figured that out on my own.
Thanks. Glad it was helpful.
This is a superb effect. Seems difficult to start off though? Worth it though. 👍🇬🇧
Just found your channel, liked and subscribed
Welcome aboard.
Brilliant
Thank you.
Very nice. I liked your treatment of the end grain both on the bench side and the sliding dog block side. Nice touch.
Thanks.
Yes- fully encase metal jaw not only looks the part, but gives you a lot Les bad stuff to clank your chisels on 👍 + I like through bolts for holding the wooden jaws to the steal vice.(just a shame you drilled all the way through for your bench dogs)🤔
Thanks. Bench dogs are extremely functional. I use them all the time.
I bought one I dont like it , it constantly gets clogged up then it wont close properly ,im forever having to take it apart and cleaning it out , just make one you can adjust with a mallet .
Nicely done. I've been thinking about doing the same. Is the installation of the PT5000 identical to the ETA 2824?
Thanks. Should be.
Great looking saw. That said, I don't think that "traditional" is the right description as I don't believe they used wingnuts and threaded metal stock back in the day. Still, a great looking saw.
Thanks for the info.
How were you able to make the teeth 'flare out' (making the teeth/kerf slightly wider than the rest of the blade) or was that step omitted ?
A saw set tool is used to set the kerf. It is not omitted.
Can the date wheel be removed for a no-date watch? Or, can you buy it without a date wheel? Thanks!
The date wheel can be removed. I believe it comes with a date wheel for eta-2824. There are movements w/o a date wheel. With a date wheel removed, you just have a click in the crown that doesn't do anything.
